    Part 1
  • COCKFIGHTERS is a 12-minute short film and packaged with interviews with some of the world's finest minds in cocking.

  • A special interview with the world's best-known cocker JOHNNIE JUMPER highlights this collection as he reminisces about his cocker beginnings and his famous partners, his love for Sunset, and his affection for cocking and the men and women who do it. Johnnie hails from Mississippi, but his roots are everywhere cockers are.  Included: son Randy Jumper gives us a peek at the Jumper farm and his dad's impressive trophy room.

  • MARTIN EDMONDS of Hawaii speaks genetics, beginnings and his philosophical thoughts about the cockfighting. "The rooster world is a very grounding and a very wonderful way to access wonderful country people and third-word people….. What I saw was an opportunity for me to participate in a historical ritual and a chance for me to draw roots and break bread with historical basic man."

  • JAMES POPE, formerly of Texas, now of the Philippines, gives us a tour of his Mexia farm and the area where he conditions his roosters for the fight.

  • JOE ZANNINO of Maryland shares cocking history,  both US and international.  His stories about the Claymore tournaments are priceless.

  • CHARLIE JOHNSON of Arkansas gives a one-minute lesson in cockfighting history and our rooster-fighting forefathers -- George, Abe . . . you know the story. He talks about superstitions and cockfighting, and how Texoma's Hawaiian derby got started.

    Part 2
  • BACON NIVISON of Utah, opens his book on "the keep." An invaluable look at cocking from a former pit owner.

  • BUTCH BORQUE of Louisiana loves the gaff tradition and tells "the greatest story about gameness", the story of Bulldog. His beginnings is a story like that of many cocker families -- it was always a family thing to do.

  • EDITH LANPHIER of Louisiana started cocking after retiring from teaching at age 48. Her first time to pit her roosters? Against the big boys of Sunset 1992. And that day she was the big winner!

  • JIM DEMOURELLE of Louisiana is fearless when it comes to taking on the animal rights folks. Hear his passion, and his reasoning. He talks abouthis beginnings, Cajun cockfighting, knives and the sport around the world.

  • JAMES McDANIEL of Alabama and "Slick Lizard Smokehouse" fame comes out of an Alabama coal mining family. He and Ray Boles share their Alabama cocker stories. James shows off a painting given to him by famed Alabama cocker Curtis Blackwell and talks about the Orlando Game Club fights.
  • RAY BOLES of Alabama drew the filmmaker to Alabama when he called her and said, "You can't do a documentary about cockfighting without covering the Alabama tradition. Some of the best cockers in the world came from around here." He takes us to his farm where he's raising Sweaters and talks about bragging rights, breeding and backyards.

  • ALLAN ANDREWS takes us to his farm to see his birds just fought at the Texoma Hawaiian Derby. A few years later, he is Sunset's 2003 two-time winner!

    Part 3
  • NEWTON WADE of Alabama tells how he got his start, about his love for Sweaters, and about the tradition of Alabama bush fighting.

  • CAROL NeSMITH of Mississippi introduces us to his buddies and his conditioning room for some sparring. He takes us to his roosters in his fly pens and to see his Sweaters on the yard. A known name in the Philippines, he talks about fighting and selling his birds there and in Mexico.
  • BOBBY KEENER of North Carolina tells of his dream of one day fighting at Sunset and going up against the "big boys who can do this for a living". For a small backyard farm, his collection of birds is eclectic. He shows them off, especially his black Albanys, doms and muffs.

  • KENNETH MECHE of Louisiana introduces us to his roosters who will be pitted at the Sunset Recreational Club that day and takes us inside the air-conditioned "house" where Meche and his favorite hen are keeping his roosters happy as they await the pit.

  • JUAN RODRIGUEZ of Texas granted an interview reluctantly at Texoma yet generously offered a look at his family's Mexican roots as five generations of cockfighters. During the season, he and his extended family tour the cocking circuit together in an air-conditioned trailer -- birds and all.

  • DAMON YORKMAN, formerly of Hawaii, lives in Oklahoma and is raising his son there. He says that in Oklahoma he is able to live his dream of fighting roosters for a living. When he speaks about the day to day of raising roosters and fighting them, you can see how deep his passion for cocking runs. The post office, his grandfather's influence, his winning ways -- he opens up about so much.

  • POKEY STOVER SAVAGE introduced the filmmaker to many of her cocker friends. Well-connected and much appreciated for her COCK 'N BULL newsletter, Pokey provides a service like no other -- a weekly account of fight results and social chat during the cocking season.

    Part 4
  • PAUL ROMIAS of Hawaii talks about fighting in the Philippines and in Hawaii. We visit his expansive farm and watch as he readies his birds for a trip to the Philippines. He and his daughter demonstrate sparing.

  • WALLY LEAN of Hawaii is a retired breeder who fought his birds at the big pits on the U.S. Mainland. He keeps track of who's winning through the cocker magazines. Friendships and camaraderie sustain his memories and remembrances.

  • WALDEMAR DOANE of Hawaii has been fighting to legalize cockfighting in Hawaii for decades. Hear him tell the stories of the early days of cockfighting in Hawaii and the brutal law enforcers. His passion for the sport is full of electrifying rhetoric.

  • ORLANDO & JANET RIERA GOMEZ talk of Miami and its Hispanic tradition of cocking. She shares her beginnings as a cocker's wife, and he lays out the landscape of Spanish-style cocking.
  • GAMY GARLEZA of Florida reveals the Miami scene behind Spanish cockfighting. He shares his family's story, the Spanish tradition, and takes us through his farm where he shows us how Spanish birds are conditioned.

  • JERRY SMITH of West Virginia tells of his dad and the Georgia and West Virginia coal mining tradition of cockfighting. He's got a great tale of challenging an arrest for having birds on his front lawn.

  • BONUS: The SUNSET RECREATION CLUB is the most famous game club in the world. Promoter BUTCH LAWSON gives us a tour of the facility.
